It's always exciting to hear about new local films being made, as we all hope to see Malaysian cinema thrive in the future. Currently, a promising project seems to be on the rise: Glass Heads Co, founded by a group of young minds who share the same passion for visual storytelling back in 2023, specializes in creating quality stories for the screen and providing essential filming equipment to fellow filmmakers. Now, they will produce a thriller-genre short film titled "Foreign Body."
This project has been described as a mystery thriller set in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, also marking the debut short film of Glass Heads Co.
Up-and-coming actor Jay Tan How Yi is set to star in the leading role of "Foreign Body." Despite being relatively new to the acting scene, Jay Tan most recently starred in the PDRM feature film “Oppa,” scheduled to hit Malaysian cinemas in summer 2024. Additionally, the lead actress will be played by Bella Xyuen Yu. "Foreign Body" is also currently being co-produced with Dreamland Motion Pictures, a production company under Jay Tan. The actor is represented by Kiwi Loh.
Young filmmaker Adam Chong is slated to direct the short film, marking his third directorial effort. He has previously directed two short films and has garnered awards from the Horizon Short Film Festival in Malaysia and the Tokyo Film Festival in Japan.
“Foreign Body” is teased as “a media presenter and a producer desperately searching for their next feature story, only to stumble upon an underground group obsessed with conjuring spirits and strange demonic practices.” Bryan Wong will serve as the short film's producer, while Cheryl Lim is the director of photography. The work of production is on going in the Klang Valley and the post production is expected to wrap in April.
